Get to Know Theodore K. Wu, DMD, MAGD
Dr. Wu founded Blue Back Dental in 2006 and brings over 20 years of experience to our West Hartford and Avon dental practices. He loves getting to know his patients and then providing them with comfortable dental care in a relaxing and friendly environment. His goal is to show people that going to the dentist can be a positive experience when you’re in the right hands. He can’t wait to meet you and your loved ones, and below, you can learn a little more about him.
Why Did Dr. Wu Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Wu knew he wanted to go into healthcare by the time he started college. He eventually chose to focus on dentistry after shadowing at his childhood dentist’s office, learning that he loved both the creative and technical nature of working with his hands as well as the rewards of providing patients with healthy, happy smiles.
Where did Dr. Wu Study Dentistry?
Dr. Wu began his college career at the University of California San Diego before going on to graduate from the prestigious Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. This was followed by completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at the University of Connecticut.
Over the years, Dr. Wu has undergone advanced training in orthodontics through the New England International Association for Orthodontics. Today, he is a certified Platinum Provider of Invisalign and can also offer Six Month Smiles cosmetic orthodontics. He has also trained internationally in dental implant placement and restoration. Continuing education and Study Club involvement is paramount to staying on dentistry’s cutting edge. In 2010, Dr Wu was awarded Fellowship status, and in 2015, he obtained Mastership status in the Academy of General Dentistry, a distinction awarded to less than 1% of all dentists.
Dr. Wu enjoys working with dental students from the UConn School of Dental Medicine where he serves as a dental externship mentor. He has been voted a Top Dentist in Connecticut Magazine every year since 2015 as well as a Top Dentist in Hartford Magazine every year since 2012.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Does Dr. Wu Like to Do?
Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Dr. Wu now resides in Avon with his wife, Noyem, and their three boys, Andy, David, and Sammy. On the weekends, you’ll usually find him spending time with family or keeping busy by taking care of his backyard flock of egg-laying hens. He also likes to stay active by skiing as well as playing ice hockey and squash. He has also coached a youth hockey team in Avon for many years.
